Dinghy and catamaran racing
We have decided to trial dinghy and catamaran racing at Coila Lake from
September. This is to give club members and others a chance to try sailing
in an organised but friendly race environment for all kinds of sailing dinghies
and catamarans. It is a chance for all club members to have a go on the water,
if they have a boat. Race entry will be free for club members. Detailed plans
and program are now being determined for racing every second Sunday afternoon
on non-keelboat race weekends. Would any club member with a dinghy or catamaran
who would like to consider this and be kept informed of developments, please
let Roger Freney know on 44715726 or email "rfreney at bigpond.net.au"
; alternatively Peter Connell on 44715794 or email "pjcl at sci.net.au"
Roger or Peter would like to know about your interest and your preferences
can be taken into account in the planning.
Equipment Audit Deadline date is 30 September. Yes, soooon!! Please contact
Robbie Clarke on 4471 1515 or whosawot@ozemail.com.au
The Club takes safety very seriously, ergo, we're taking the Audit deadline
seriously. Get it done or suffer the consequences. Non compliance is protestable!
Many, many thanks to Rob Currall & Peter & Lyn Connell (& anyone else who
has helped!!!) to get our marks in order for the season. It's great to know
that we'll be sailing around things that won't a) follow the boat after rounding,
& b) result in mid race swims & c) are actually there.
Cape Fear/DUTY BOAT DUTIES.
As you will see from the program, a Duty Boat has been assigned for each
race. This season, it is particularly important. Cape Fear needs a deckhand
for each race, and it will be up to the Duty Boat to provide one. The Deckhand
will need to assist Peter & Lyn on Cape Fear to set marks, pull anchors etc.
This can be a good thing - we, as crew & skippers get to experience a bit
of race management. Another duty of the Duty Boat is to get the post race
BBQ happening. This is totally not that hard, & provides a wonderful social
aspect for our racing. (Also a bit of revenue! - Sorry, the Treasurer in me
coming out).
If you've any questions about the Program, or Duty Boat duties, please contact
Captain Keel Boats Tony Sutton, on 0412 357 566.
